GRAC PB C Map of Wellesley Islands Sea Determination NOTICE OF LARDIL, YANGKAAL, GANGALIDDA & KAIDILT COMMUNITY MEETING TO AUTHORISE VARIATION TO THE WELLESLEY ISLANDS SEA NATIVE TITLE DETERMINATION Gununa GULF REGION ABORIGINAL CORPORATION RNTBC ICN - 7139 On 23 March 2004, the Federal Court of Australia made a determination on behalf of the Lardil, Yangkaal, Gangalidda & Kaiadilt Peoples in recognition of their native title rights and interests under the Native Title Act 1993 (Cth) in Lardil Peoples v State of Queensland [2004] FCA 298 (Wellesley Islands Sea Determination). On Thursday, 26 March 2026, a meeting will be hosted on Mornington Island. Attendees can also join via MS Teams from the locations listed below in Burketown and Cairns. The purpose of the meeting is to consult with and authorise Gulf Regional Aboriginal Corporation RNTBC (GRAC) to commence legal proceedings in the Federal Court of Australia, seeking a variation of the Wellesley Islands Sea Determination. The proposed variation seeks recognition of the rights of Lardil, Yangkaal, Kaiadilt and Gangalidda Peoples to take resources for any purpose within the determination area. Who should attend this meeting? Lardil, Yangkaal, Kaiadilt and Gangalidda Peoples who wish to have a say about whether GRAC should make the application to vary the Wellesley Islands Sea Determination should attend the meeting. At the meeting attendees will be asked to make decisions about the variation application. It is therefore important that you attend the meeting as decisions may be made even if you are not present at the authorisation meeting.
